Ok, let me tell you a little story…
I love Chikfila. I love McDonald’s. I love Arby’s… I LOVE fast food! I hate to cook. No, like I really really hate cooking, ask my husband 😂 So, for a long time, I ate fast food more than a few times a week. Also, I ordered a lot of pizza.
I’ve never been one to workout either. Sure, I get on my kicks a couple times a year. I get on the New Years resolutions bandwagon with everyone else, and then again right before summer, but I never last more than a couple weeks.
Well, as most of you know, I am a bit obsessed with Rachel Hollis. She’s pretty much my best friend, even if she doesn’t know it yet. She created this challenge called #last90days. The point of this challenge is to finish your year as strong as most people start a new year. Part of this challenge is doing what she calls the 5 to thrive.
1. Wake up an hour earlier
2. Move your body at least 30 min. a day
3. Drink 1/2 your weight in ounces of water
4. Write down 5 things you are grateful everyday
5. Give up one category of food you know you shouldn’t have.
On October 1, 2019, I started my last 90 days challenge. I had actually stopped eating fast food about to 2 weeks prior so that’s what I decided to give up. For 90 days, I woke up at 5am every morning and ran on the elliptical for 30 minutes before I got my shower. For 90 days, I resisted the urge to just grab a dollar burger for dinner because it’s easy and cheap. I even sat across from the girls while they ate Chick-fil-A, and snacked on cashews. I filled up my giant water bottle and dragged it around everywhere with me so I could make sure so drank enough water everyday.
After 90 days, I realized that I had now created some new habits. I no longer fought myself to wake up early and run. I knew that even though I didn’t feel like it, if I just put on my stupid shoes and got on the elliptical I’d be into it in a few minutes and ultimately feel better for the whole day. I realized I don’t have to eat fast food and when I didn’t, I felt SOOOO much better. I realized that I have so much to be grateful for every day!
So I kept going. I’ve continued my 5 to thrive and I love the progress I’ve made. While, I did have a McDonald’s cheeseburger at 95 days and an order of Chik n minis for my bday at a 110 days, I have continued to resist fast food.
Tonight, I had my 1st Chik fil a sandwich (my favorite fast food item in the world) in 5 months!!! It was sooo good.
Here’s the kicker though, now that I’ve “blown it” does that mean I’m gonna just get fast food whenever? Nope! Because, I have new habits. And every once in awhile, it’s ok to indulge. It’s all about knowing what I want and what I want most. Sure, I want to eat junk, but what I want most, is to feel good and be healthier.
That’s my story ❤️ and I’m proud
